White Water, BC, Canada

Ah, if only the timing was right. I went to White Water on the recommendation of many many people. I was staying in Rossland and riding at Red Mountain, but figured the trip was worth it. This place is small on the small scale. 2 chairs take you up either side of the valley, and off you go.

I visited in December 2000, which was a very dry season. The coverage was minimal, and the conditions were sketchy. That said, I still managed to find some untracked in the trees, and also after persuading one of the lifties to share a teeny weeny secret without getting his legs broken, I found some more in the afternoon. There was fun to be had, and it would seem that on a big powder day, you'd be completely knackered just shredding up the stuff all day.

Backcountry potential seemed good enough, but due to the low and weak snow pack, I never managed to try it out. I'll be back.

And I was. Christmas 2002 saw me back in White Water for a day, and having a reasonable dump of snow recently, there was powder to be found everywhere. Down the main runs and in the trees. This place is great.
