Web Of Trust Rules
There are a number of rules laid down by Thawte that I must abide by as a Notary.
Most of my requirements are as follows:-
- You must bring original identity documents to the meeting, and copies
of the documents which I must retain for 5 years.
- The name on the documents must match exactly the name held within the
Thawte database. Note that I may not see your database entry until
after our meeting, and if the names do not match, I cannot assert your
identity to Thawte. However, your middle name(s) may appear as an
initial(s) within the documents. E.g. if Thawte know you as Frederick
James Bloggs, then documents that say Frederick J Bloggs, or even
Frederick Bloggs are OK. Documents that say Fred Bloggs are not OK. If
all your documents state Fred Bloggs, then you can get Thawte to change
the database entry, before I make the assertion.
If you want to, you may send me your Thawte ID prior to the meeting, so
that I can print out a form with your details already on it. If you do
this, make sure that you ENCRYPT your e-mail to me. If you don't know
how to encrypt e-mail, then please don't send it. Your Thawte ID is the
ID that you use to login to Thawte, it is either UK-SOMETHING-1 or an
e-mail address that you choose.
- At least one of the documents must contain a photo, which is a true
likeness to yourself. If it's an old photo, check that you haven't
changed that much. In addition, one of the documents must contain the
number used in your Thawte ID. If you've used your passport number,
then that's great. If you've used your National Insurance number, then
you need to bring something with that number on, which means some
document from the Inland Revenue (although I'd rather not have a copy of
your P60 in my files!) The NI Card is not acceptable. Note that due
to these rules, if you do not have a passport or a new style driving
licence, then I cannot notarise you - these are Thawte's rules which I
must follow.
I hope you are still reading, Thawte rightfully make this a serious
process, without which the credibility of the WOT would be worthless.
If you can meet all these requirements, then read on.
I award points based on the amount of ID's that you can bring. They are
as follows:-
|
British/EU Passport
|
10 points
| |
Driving Licence
|
10 points (non-photo type gets 5 points)
| |
Birth Certificate
|

| |
Marriage Certificate
|

| |
Inland Revenue Form
|

|
I will also give an extra 5 points for the document that matches your
Thawte ID.
And that's it. If you'd like to arrange a meeting, get in touch with the email address
